Recently, SSIAZ and the China WTO Africa Affairs Trade Promotion Centre (CWTO) signed an agreement to promote trade and investment between the two countries.
SSIAZ executive director Wilson Mazimba said in an interview that the order came from Chinese enterprises of copper products through CWTO.
“CWTO has expressed interest to buy about 1,000 tonnes of copper for the first transaction and 5,000 tonnes per month, thereafter of copper cathodes and copper concentrate. CWTO Africa Affairs Committee Trade Promotion Centre seeks, among other things, to promote investment activities and trade between China and Zambia.
“CWTO covers a wide range of products across different categories in the market and the types of goods can reach hundreds of thousands, providing a wide choice,” Mr Mazimba said.
He said the association has been tasked to look for suitable copper products as specified by the buyers from China.
Mr Mazimba also said SSIAZ under the agreement has been given the duty to facilitating trade between China and Zambia in various products apart from copper.
He said the mission of the centre clearly fits in the SSIAZ mission and its goals, and therefore, cooperation between the two organisations will create synergies that ultimately benefit the target population, the small-scale entrepreneurs’ sector.
He said to actualise orders, CWTO has supplied SSIAZ with inquiry sheets where all inquiries from Zambian importers and exporters shall be tabulated and sent to CWTO for review and onward submission to Chinese suppliers and buyers.
