Hexagon is helping miners to extract additional value out of mining operations through integrated, life-of-mine technology.
With operations across Africa, including in Zambia, Hexagon believes safety should be dovetailed to mining optimization, the company’s core business.
According to Dave Goddard, President of Hexagon’s Mining division, technology and trust are key to safe operations, as mining can be a dangerous business.
Sharing insights on the company, with the Zambian Mining News at the Mining Indaba 2026, Goddard said all mining jobs should be safe. Hence the company has the broadest portfolio of technology solutions across the entire value chain, to optimize operations and ensure safety.
“There isn’t a point in your value chain that we can’t add value,” buttressed Goddard.
However, Goddard says technology is not a silver bullet; it requires engagement with the people that are using the technology in order to effectively use it.
“What we’ve seen is when people do effectively use it (technology) and have engagement, fatigue incidents go down dramatically.”
He said the company is looking for customers to partner with and help them along the journey to optimization.
Goddard said the company’s products address the life-of-mine value chain, including mine planning. Hexagon MinePlan does geological planning, mine engineering, short-, mid, long-term mine plans, and life-of-mine plans.
“It’s all about optimizing the sequencing and optimizing the net present value of that asset, that ore body that’s in the ground.
“That’s our first portfolio,” said Goddard.
Goddard said the second portfolio is the operations portfolio, which has a series of solutions around the fleet management system in order to maximize the amount of value that is delivered to the mine each and every day.
“So, making sure that the material flow is optimized with the minimum amount of equipment used and so efficient operations. Basically, optimizing a day in life of a mine.
He said the third portfolio covers safety, integrating collision avoidance, operator fatigue, and vehicle intervention systems to ensure that the people entering the mine can exit the mine at the end of the day to be with their families.
Citing an example on productivity, Goddard said the company’s fleet management systems have helped some miners increase productivity by 20 percent.
