Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) has won the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and the Most Liquid Stock of the Year awards at the Zambia Capital Markets Conference and Awards (ZCMCA) 2026 gala dinner held at Avani Victoria Falls Resort in Livingstone on 2 October.
The ESG Award recognises CEC’s continued integration of ESG considerations across its business. This includes the expansion of renewable-energy generation, support for sustainable development and the strengthening of responsible corporate practices.
CEC was also recognised as the Most Liquid Stock of the Year, reflecting continued investor participation and activity in the Company’s shares.
Reacting to the recognition, CEC Plc Chief Financial Officer, Mutale Mukuka said, “We are delighted by this recognition, which shows the central role ESG plays in our operations and strategic decision-making. Continued investor confidence has also been a key driver in CEC’s shares being named the Most Liquid Stock of the Year, a testament to the market’s faith in our long-term value proposition. We remain focused on delivering on both fronts.”
National Pension Scheme Authority Director General, Muyangwa Muyangwa, said the awards set a benchmark for excellence across the market and reinforce standards that promote trust and wider participation.
“Long-term capital will follow when the market provides well-governed, transparent and investment-ready opportunities,” Muyangwa said, noting the importance of channelling institutional savings into Zambia’s productive economy.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Chitalu, represented by Assistant Director – Market Development and Projects Mubanga Kondolo, called for collective action to build the capital market Zambia needs by 2030.
“Capital Markets 2030 is not merely a destination; it is a journey that requires the participation of all stakeholders,” Chitalu said.
He said the SEC had put in place a framework to galvanise industry efforts, including the Capital Markets Master Plan, which provides a unified roadmap for a 10-year strategy to guide the development of the market.
“Deepening markets, broadening participation and strengthening confidence will remain central to the journey ahead,” he said, adding that no single institution could build the capital market Zambia needs.
Lusaka Securities Exchange Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Kabaso, speaking before the presentation of the awards, recognised the legacy of individuals who have made lasting contributions to the development of Zambia’s capital markets.
“The market we enjoy today stands on foundations laid by men and women who believed in its potential long before its success was assured,” Kabaso said.
As Zambia works towards the Capital Markets 2030 agenda, CEC remains committed to creating long-term value for shareholders and supporting the development of a deeper, more liquid and inclusive capital-market ecosystem.
