Herzog Strengthens Israel–Zambia Ties During State Visit

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has concluded a two-day state visit to Zambia, reaffirming cooperation between the two nations under the General Framework Agreement of Cooperation signed in 2023. Herzog was received on 10 November at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by President Hakainde Hichilema before the two leaders proceeded to State House for bilateral talks.

During their discussions, Hichilema emphasised Israel’s potential to enhance investment in Zambia’s key economic sectors such as energy, mining, tourism and agriculture. He highlighted Zambia’s vast resource base, particularly its critical minerals, which align with Israel’s advanced technology and manufacturing industries. Herzog commended Zambia’s economic progress, noting that increased investor confidence has drawn growing interest from Israeli firms, NGOs and private sector players seeking to participate in Zambia’s development projects.

Hichilema expressed optimism that Israel’s world-renowned expertise in irrigation and water-efficient agriculture could help boost Zambia’s productivity and resilience in the face of climate challenges. A state banquet was held in honour of Herzog. In his address, Hichilema congratulated the State of Israel for achieving a ceasefire agreement with Gaza, calling it an important step toward peace.

In his farewell message, Hichilema said,“We deeply appreciate the precious words of goodwill and blessing he pronounced over our nation. This historic visit has further deepened the enduring friendship between Zambia and Israel, a partnership founded on shared faith, mutual respect and a common vision for peace and prosperity.”
